New Autism Facility to Serve Approximately 80 Young Children, O'Brien Announces
Rep. Dennis O’Brien (R-Philadelphia) today attended the grand opening of the Center for Autism on Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
The Center for Autism, which opened in 1955, is the oldest specialized autism center in the United States. The center offers comprehensive evaluation and intensive treatment to individuals with autism and their families.
“I have been involved with the Center for Autism since its founder, Dr. Bertram Ruttenberg diagnosed my nephew Christopher with Autism several years ago,” said O’Brien. “Since its founding, the center has seen numerous changes. In just this past year, it has moved its headquarters to a state-of-the-art facility on Ford Road and, today, we are lucky to open this satellite location in the heart of Northeast Philadelphia.”
The Grant Ave. location will offer its renowned autism treatment programs to approximately 80 children ages 2 to 15 years old. The site features 12 therapeutic rooms, a playground and administrative space. The site will replace the organization’s treatment facility at 3965 Conshohocken Ave.
Preschool-aged children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, will experience a daily, intensive treatment program. Also offered will be social competency evening programs designed to facilitate social competency skills in children and adolescents ages 6 to 15.
“I am so pleased to work with the Center for Autism in my fight for these amazing individuals and their families. It is my hope that the residents of Northeast Philadelphia will take advantage of this wonderful resource,” O’Brien added.
